Course Description
The Purpose of the Program
- Establish a leadership development program for CTE Educators in Indiana ACTE and assist individuals in further developing their leadership skills in CTE and their involvement in professional associations.
- Provide an opportunity for CTE Educators to become familiar with and participate in the processes used by policymakers in the development and implementation of laws, regulations, and other public policies at the local and state levels.
- Identify, train and motivate a cadre of leaders who will continue to position Indiana ACTE as a leader in developing an educated, prepared, adaptable, and competitive workforce.
The Program of Work
The Fellowship Program is a two-year commitment from January to December 31. Each participant will complete the required activities, and submit a final portfolio of their accomplishments to the Fellowship Coordinator. Final reports are due by December 31st of the second year. Year 1 will focus on ACTE in the state of Indiana, year 2 will pull in Region III and National.
The portfolio will include the following activities subdivided into three categories:
LEADERSHIP
- Interview by phone or in-person with a current leader in Career and Technical Education.
- Read two required readings (one book selected to be read by all the Fellows, one personal choice selected by the Fellow). Participate in discussion regarding the books. Write a (1 page) “Fellows Blog Post” to be shared on the Indiana ACTE website and shared with the membership.
- Participate in a “board shadow” to observe an Indiana ACTE Board meeting.
- Attend at least one state committee meeting (Membership, Legislative, Professional Development).
- Work with the other Indiana ACTE Fellows to present a session on your experience with the Indiana ACTE state conference year one and Region III conference year two.
- Year 1, attend the Indiana ACTE State conference held in September and write a summary about the experience and what you learned about leadership.
- Year 2, attend Region III summer conference and National ACTE Vision and write a summary about the experience and what you learned about leadership.
- Write a summary of what you learned/gained from the Fellowship program experience to be shared on the “Fellows Blog Post.”
POLICY
- Conduct an in-person visit with a local elected official (guidance to be given) and prepare a report of the experience.

- Attend Legislative Day in February (year 1) and write a “Fellows Blog Post”
FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS
The Fellows will receive paid registration for the required conference attendance
Each selected Fellow will also receive recognition on the Indiana ACTE website, lead a Fellowship Program Session during the Indiana ACTE State Conference (year 1) and ACTE Region III Conference, and be recognized during the General Session at the State Conference.
MENTORS
Each Fellow will have a mentor assigned to them.
CRITERIA
Fellowships are limited to Indiana ACTE members who have at least one year of work in Career and Technical Education.
